This driver is designed for use on computers that will be directly connected to the printer from the computer's Parallel port with a Parallel cable.
Please note that with this print only driver version:
The toolbox is disabled.
There is no installer shell.
There is no bi-directional communication so users will not see status messages nor have access to the printer front panel Save function.
Printer driver icon shortcuts are not installed on the desktop
NOTE: Begin by removing previous versions of the 1218/xi printer software.
After any previous installation is removed and you have restarted your computer:
Follow these Steps:
Download the file 12182kEn.exe, and then locate this file in the directory C:\Temp or the directory you chose to download them into.
Double-click on file to uncompress within the c:\Temp\1218Net directory.
Before you install this software, the printer's power cord must be plugged in and paper must be loaded. Turn on the printer and insert the print cartridges. Make sure that the Parallel cable is NOT connected!

Installation Instructions for Windows 2000 for Parallel Connection
Click on the Start button, then Settings, then Printers. Double-click on Add Printer.
Choose My Computer as the printer connection, then click Next.
Choose Local Printer as the printer connection.
Uncheck Automatically detect and install my plug and play printer, then click Next
Choose Printer Port (typically LPTx:), Click Next.
Click Have Disk, and then Browse.
Double-click on the drive where you downloaded the driver files (in the example c:\temp\1218Net) and the process should locate the file hpdj.inf.
Click OK, Click OK again.
Accept the default name for your printer and click Next.
Click Share As and type the name for the printer.
Click Finish.
