The HP DeskJet 840C Series Printer Driver, version 2.3.2, fixes certain problems printing in Jasc® Paint Shop Pro 5? and Jasc® Paint Shop Pro 6? with a HP DeskJet 840C Series printer. Specifically, when printing from Paint Shop Pro 5 or 6 in Microsoft® Windows® 95/98 environments, selecting "Landscape" orientation results in the image being shifted slightly to the left instead of rotating to a "Landscape" position. As a result, the "Landscape" document prints to margin widths found in the "Portrait" orientation, a width of 6 inches.
This driver supports the HP DeskJet 840C, 842C, and 843C printers in Windows 98 only. It is designed for use on computers that will be directly connected to the printer from the computer's USB port with a USB cable.
If you have already attempted to install the driver, you must disconnect the USB cable from the back of the computer. You must also run the Uninstaller from the printer driver CD included with your printer before you attempt to install this downloaded file. For help uninstalling the driver, locate the document "How to Remove the Printer Software in Windows 95, 98, and NT 4.0" located on HP's DeskJet 840C support page.
To Install:
Download and save this file to your hard disk, making a note of the directory where you save it. Then double-click it to extract the files. This will create a directory with several sub-directories like \enu\DISK1, DISK2, and DISK3.
Note: \enu is for the English version. Other languages will have a different three letter designator e.g. \fra for French.
Before you install this software, you must set up the printer by plugging in the electrical power cord and loading white paper. Then turn on the printer and insert the print cartridges. Before you connect the USB cable, close any open programs running on your computer.
Now connect the USB cable. You will see a New Hardware Found Wizard dialog box with the DeskJet 840C printer listed. Click Next. Then select Search and click Next. In the next screen, check "Specify a Location" and click Browse. Do not click Next. Double-click on the drive where you downloaded the driver files and locate the \DISK1 directory.. Now point to the WIN98USB folder, and click OK.
